Jack's Wife Freda

There are few places in NYC that you can rely on for a consistently great experience, and Jack's Wife Freda is one of them. There isn't anything particularly boisterous about the space or food but rather a warm feeling of familiarity. Equally great for breakfast or dinner, the dishes are bright and healthy with excellent cocktails when you're in the mood for a little something extra with your eggs. I'm a sucker for any place that tells a great story, and JWF carries it's family first and artisan branding from the hand lettered menu to the online cookbook. I also love the feeling of honesty behind the husband and wife duo who own both NYC locations.

RnR visited the Carmine location, and the space is dominated by two distinct design elements: lighting and art. Everything else is in the details. One of the most classic elements that is sometime hard to replicate is the marble counter top and cafe table top. Instead of swapping your tile for a slab, try purchasing a few marble serving boards. There are dozens of them out there, and they look great with any decor while making things feel just a touch classier. Great art can also be difficult to find but our resources page has a list of favorite affordable online art stores. All that's left is learning how to make flowers out of milk foam.
