Bluestone Lane Dumbo

I don't live in Brooklyn, but I might as well. Most people I spend time with live on the other side of the East river, so I frequently find myself in charming coffee shops surrounded by mustached men and women wearing some kind of knitted textile. I know I'm stereotyping here, but anyone who has been on the L train knows there is a nugget of truth to that. Understandably, I was surprised when I stumbled into Bluestone Lane after "a run" (I put on work out clothes and walked briskly to the cafe). It didn't feel anything like a typical Brooklyn coffee shop. It's actually an Australian cafe chain - they have locations all over the city, and after visiting Sydney in February, I can say the vibe is totally authentic. Bright, modern, great coffee, and great breakfast.

The space has almost a tropical glam theme. The gold with the vintage wallpaper mixed with all kinds of non-tropical greenery, including a cactus, made the place feel lively. I also respect a place that isn't afraid to use a little pink. I recognized the chairs right away from CB2 and applauded their thrift. After doing some hunting, I found that some of their accessories and stools were also from there. Just goes to show, you don't have to pay a lot for good design. Below are a few key pieces to create your very own Australian dining nook. Bonus points if you can find a lovely Australian man or woman to make you a flat white and avocado toast.
